Phil Ivey has been referred to as the greatest poker competitor in the world by quite a few of the top professionals. Phil did not allow the negative comments from others annihilate his ambition of becoming one of the greatest poker players on the planet.

Phil began playing seriously after acquiring a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He sharpened his techniques at the casinos in Atlantic City. The first number of years for him were a teaching period and coming away with a win wasn't a common outcome at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he made 2 final tables and won his first WSOP bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the closing table he defeated many of the better known professionals which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil decided to take his skills to the next level and headed out west to Vegas. Phil continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Ivey credits his success to hard work and an undying passion for poker. Phil says that he's learning every single day and is very abashed about his accomplishments. He knows he makes errors in each session of poker and constantly strives to improve.

Even though Phil has come first in some big tournaments, he favors winning money games on a normal basis.
