Free poker tournaments are daily events that occur on most of the greatest internet poker sites. Freerolls are greatly loved by the poker gambling community as they provide the poker players the ability to gain some real cash without squandering any. The buyin to these freerolls is - as their titles indicates - cost-free and prize money can vary from a few dollars for finishing near the top to a few hundred dollars for capturing the big freeroll hold'em poker tournaments.

So why do the poker rooms have free tournaments? Is it as a result of their incredibly altruistic makeup and the reality that they acquire massive amounts of $$$$$ so they feel a moral obligation to provide a bit of it back?

What do you think!

No of course it isn't, the basis that the big poker websites offer free tournaments is to bring in folks to their site.

Here is the idea boiled down - You come across a poker site that has an awesome freeroll, it costs you nada to enter and you will be able to capture one hundred dollars. You think "Great!" and you head over to the poker site and join as a member so you can play the freeroll. You can play and get knocked out early and are ticked off on the grounds that you feel you should have done much better, or you go close to winning and so you are seeking even more excitement. What do you do? You wager some cash at the site and participate in a different poker game!

Make sure to check the freerolls for payout requirements, you will almost always need to bet on a few hands for actual money before they permit you take the money out. Often this is on a 1 to 1 basis, so if you win twenty dollars at the free poker tournament you will have to have bet for 20 dollars in actual $$$$ in order for you to be able to take out the money.
