Phil Ivey has been referred to as the greatest poker player on the planet by quite a few of the top professionals. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to Jersey before his first birthday. His grandpa introduced him to one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was hooked on poker and wanted to learn anything he possibly could about poker. Phil would tell his elders that he was going to be a professional poker player. He didn't permit the adverse comments from other people annihilate his ambition of being one of the greatest poker competitors on the planet.

He started playing seriously after acquiring a false ID with the name of Jerome. He practiced his abilities at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The first few years for him were a learning period and coming away with a win was not a common outcome at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he made 2 final tables and came away with his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the final table he defeated many of the well known pros including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He decided to take his skills to the successive level and moved out west to Las Vegas. Phil continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Phil credits his success to hard work and an undying passion for the game of poker. Phil says that he's picking up skills every day and is quite abashed about his achievements. He knows he makes errors in each game of poker and constantly aspires to get better.

Although Phil has won some big tournaments, he prefers winning money games on a normal basis.
