Phil Ivey has been branded as the best poker contender on the globe by many of the top pros. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to Jersey before reaching turning 1. His grandfather taught Phil penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was addicted to poker and wanted to learn every little thing he could about poker. Phil routinely told his grandparents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He didn't permit the adverse comments from other people annihilate his dream of being one of the strongest poker competitors on the planet.

He started competing intently after acquiring a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He sharpened his skills at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The initial few years for Phil were a teaching period and winning wasn't a regular thing at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he achieved 2 final tables and came away with his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the last table he defeated a number of the better known professionals which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil made a decision to take his skills to the next level and moved out west to Vegas. Phil continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Phil credits his achievements to discipline and a continuing love for poker. Phil says that he is picking up skills every day and is incredibly humble about his success. He knows he makes mistakes in each session of poker and always strives to improve.

Despite the fact that Ivey has won some large tournaments, he favors destroying cash games on a normal basis.
