Phil Ivey has been branded as the number one poker player in the world by most of the top-ranked pros. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to Jersey before reaching turning 1. His grandpa taught Phil one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was addicted to poker and wanted to pickup every little thing he could about the game. He would tell his parents that he was planning on being a professional poker player. Phil did not permit the detrimental comments from other people destroy his dream of being one of the best poker players in the world.

He began playing seriously after getting a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He honed his game at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The initial few years for Phil were a teaching period and winning wasn't a common thing at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he made 2 final tables and won his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the closing table he destroyed many of the better known pros which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He decided to take his skills to the next level and headed out west to Vegas. He continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Phil credits his success to hard work and an eternal passion for the game of poker. Phil says that he is picking up skills every single day and is very abashed about his achievements. Phil admits to making blunders every single game of poker and always strives to improve.

Despite the fact that Phil has won some large tournaments, he likes winning cash games on a normal basis.
