Phil Ivey has been labeled as the greatest poker contender on the globe by most of the top-ranked pros. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to New Jersey before reaching the age of one. His grandfather taught Phil penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was hooked on poker and wanted to discover everything he could about poker. He would tell his parents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He didn't permit the adverse feedback from others kill his goal of being one of the greatest poker players on the planet.

Phil began playing intently after getting a false ID by the name of Jerome. He sharpened his skills at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The beginning few years for him were a teaching opportunity and coming away with a win was not a regular outcome at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he made two final tables and came away with his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the closing table he destroyed quite a few of the better known pros including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He made a decision to take his skills to the next level and headed out west to Sin City. He continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Ivey credits his success to discipline and an eternal love for the game of poker. Phil states that he is picking up skills every day and is incredibly abashed about his accomplishments. He knows he makes errors in each game of poker and always aspires to get better.

Despite the fact that Phil has come first in some big-time tournaments, he prefers winning cash games on a regular basis.
