Phil Ivey has been referred to as the best poker contender on the planet by many of the top pros. He was born in Riverside, CA and moved to Jersey before his first birthday. His grandfather taught Phil one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was addicted to poker and wished to discover whatever he possibly could about poker. Phil would tell his elders that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He did not let the negative feedback from other people destroy his goal of being one of the greatest poker competitors in the world.

He began playing seriously after getting a false ID with the name of Jerome. He honed his skills at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The beginning number of years for him were a teaching experience and coming away with a win was not a normal outcome at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he made two final tables and won his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the last table he destroyed many of the better known pros including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He decided to take his skills to the next level and headed out west to Sin City. Phil continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Phil credits his success to dedication and an eternal passion for the game of poker. He states that he is picking up skills every single day and is quite humble about his success. He admits to making blunders in each game of poker and always strives to improve.

Despite the fact that Ivey has won some big tournaments, he prefers winning money games on a normal basis.
