Gus Hansen had a wonderful year on the World Poker Tour where he was the only player to achieve closing poker table in three of the events. Gus Hansen has appeared on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he paid $400, 000 to play. You may recall one of the biggest pots in big stakes poker history up against Daniel Negreanu. Hansen secured a huge pot with quads against Daniel's full house. Gus has made many televised poker appearances and is deemed to be one of the strongest gamblers in the world. While betting on internet poker, a different side of Hansen has emerged. Gus regularly participates in the 200/400 NL max buy in of Forty Thousand dollars. Gus frequently buys-in for the minimum of Sixteen Thousand dollars and gambles very weak. He sits there waiting for a good hand and then goes all in. I know Hansen is a great poker player but certainly not even close to the everyday players at 200/400no limit. Unless Gus is broke, he has absolutely no reason to settle at the table with the minimum buy-in.

Playing for the minimum takes most of the ability out of big stack poker. Hansen is supposed to be 1 of the greatest players in the world but he cannot buy-in for the total amount. I believe tv can alter our view of the real world every now and then. The best players anywhere in the world might be players you have never heard of.
